The story of the route
Green Switch Best from start to finish
Not a route full of spectacular highlights, but simply a wonderful walk where peace and forests are central
My walk starts at Best station. Almost immediately I walk into the pleasant center. There are plenty of catering establishments, supermarkets and shops here to get something to eat or drink before the walk really starts. That makes this walk so special: this Green Switch Best is also ideal when you travel by train.

After the center I walk through quiet residential areas. The houses slowly disappear into the background and the surroundings become increasingly greener.

Past the St. Odulphus Church
During the first kilometers of the walk you will pass the St. Odulphus Church, one of the most famous buildings in Best. The imposing church has been a landmark in the center for years and is immediately noticeable due to its high tower. The current neo-Gothic church was built at the end of the 19th century to replace an older church building that had become too small for the growing village.
By the way, the St. Odulphus Church is part of the Best Green Exchange route, which makes the route extra interesting.

Where the village turns into the Green Forest
After the church and residential areas, Best disappears into the background and a quieter landscape of wooded avenues, old trees and Brabant nature begins.
Past St. Odulphus Church, further along the way
The church is named after Saint Odulphus, a 9th century missionary who played an important role in the spread of Christianity in this region. There is a peaceful atmosphere around the church and it is a nice place to pause for a moment before heading out into nature.
This way the walk not only starts with a piece of Brabant history, but you also immediately get an impression of the character of Best.

Past St. Odulphus Church, further along the way
The first kilometers form a quiet transition from village to nature. Although there is a small part along the way that I personally found less attractive, fortunately this does not last long. Then the environment changes quickly and you walk further and further towards the woods. Along the way you will also come across beautiful redwood trees. The special thing about the Green Exchange Best is that you will find unique nature at various points.
After the first kilometers I reach Het Groene Woud, one of the most beautiful nature reserves in North Brabant. This National Landscape is located between Eindhoven, Tilburg and ‘s-Hertogenbosch and covers approximately 35,000 hectares. The area was created because various nature reserves, forests, stream valleys and agricultural lands are connected. As a result, Het Groene Woud is now an important habitat for countless plant and animal species.

Important to mention: this Green Exchange Best literally takes you through the heart of Het Groene Woud.
Along the way I come across several information boards that tell more about the nature in the area. I read that red deer have now regained a permanent place in Het Groene Woud. Since 2017, these impressive animals have been reintroduced here to strengthen nature.

My experience
A route that retains its own character
The last part consists largely of asphalt. This part was disappointing and mainly ran on 60 roads. And before I know it I am back at Best station and this varied Green Switch is complete.
